Well, look at this! Isn't this lovely? Isn't this civilized? Isn't this . . . European?

This is Greeley Square, named for Horace Greeley, famed New York newspaperman and reformer of the nineteenth century.

The kiosks are closed now (it's about 8:15 p.m.), so it looks as if people have brought drinks and snacks in with them. There is some grumbling on the web about the still not opened Wichcraft kiosk. It's a Craft tease, they say.

See map.

I love this photo--and this little 'park,' especially since you can't tell it's nestling in the heart of some huge, busy streets. Back in the day when I smoked, and went around the city looking for little places like this to smoke and drink coffee and hopefully feed a few birds to put in my Guide for City Smokers, this was one of my favorites. They used to have a deli nearby where you could serve yourself breakfasts of french toast, sausages, syrups and other bad stuff which you could run across the street with to that little park to eat and smoke and watch the traffic. Them were the days!
