Hudson Heights, Bennett Avenue Between 184th and 186th Streets

This building was toward the end of the block, and next to it was a yeshiva, so I assumed it was a synagogue, but there was no sign to name it or confirm it. Manhattan Block by Block gives it a name: Kehal Adath Yeshurun, but does not say what it is. Wikipedia spells it Khal Adath Jeshurun and calls it a congregation, a "full-service community" which includes, among other things, a synagogue. Still don't know for sure if this is the synagogue. If anyone out there knows, please let me know.

Hudson Heights, Bennett Avenue Between 181st and 184th Streets

I had planned some bold new walk today after therapy on 86th Street, but then realized I was one can away from being out of cat food. So instead, I took the subway up to 181st Street and finished Bennett Avenue on my way to the vet. It was cold today, glove weather, and by the time I got there, my fingers were numb, so maybe it was better not to be bold today.

Not much to look at street level on this stretch of Bennett Avenue, had to look up. Look at that sky! I even decreased the saturation.

Hudson Heights, Bennett Avenue at 192nd Street

I haven't had map talk for a while, but now it's time. 192nd Street is just too ridiculous to ignore. I hope you all have Manhattan street maps because the link below is not adequate to this discussion; it doesn't bother to number the streets past 189th. But if that's all you have, you can at least get an idea of the leap the street takes.

192nd runs west from Audubon Avenue stopping abruptly at Wadsworth Avenue, a mere two blocks long. IF 192nd continued, it would cross Wadsworth Terrace, Fairview Avenue, Broadway Terrace and finally Broadway. But it doesn't. Nevertheless, three blocks up from where it would cross Broadway IF it continued, there is a half block street which ends abruptly at Bennett Avenue and it is named 192nd Street.

You just have to wonder who was in charge of naming streets.

And wait till I get to 193rd.

Washington Heights, Bennett Avenue Between Broadway and 190th Street

Continuing down Broadway, past Nagle, here's Bennett Avenue which curves off Broadway and then runs parallel to it. I was sure surprised to see this wall of rock. You might say stupefied. The rock side of the street is at the southern end of Fort Tryon Park.

And this is farther down the block, between 192nd and 190th Streets. You understand, this is just a regular old Manhattan street with standard apartment buildings on the other side.
