I'm standing on the corner, waiting to cross Columbus Avenue, so that's the northwest corner we're looking at, from 84th Street, looking up to 85th. Below, you will see what's on the southwest corner. But this isn't a bad looking block, right?

Ugh! What were they thinking? And wait till you see what it is. Tomorrow night, after I cross the street.
A few weeks ago, I mentioned how Verizon won't transmit email with hyperlinks in it, remember? At the time, I wasn't thinking about how that meant that I wouldn't get notification of comments left on this blog because Blogger includes a link.
That means that I would never see comments left on older posts.
Now Verizon has backed down because yesterday I started getting the notifications again. One of them was a link to a comment on a December 2007 post. And by a fortunate coincidence, there was another one on that same post that was sent the week before, which I never saw and probably never would have. From someone who used to live there asking me a question!
So if anyone is wondering why I haven't answered their comment, that's why. Send it again. And curse Verizon.

Here is Bella Luna. I must say it looks a bit more flashy in this photo than I remember it being. It's a longtime neighborhood pasta place, the waitress said 22 years, nothing exciting about it, but comfortable and reasonable.

Morningside Heights, Columbus Avenue at 110th Street

We're standing in Central Harlem, looking across Columbus Avenue to Morningside Heights where that building has the longest drycleaner/laundry I've ever seen. The yellow and orange sign defines it.
Columbus Avenue stops here – across 110th is Morningside Drive which is narrower, curves around Morningside Park and deadends at 122nd Street. You may be aware that Columbus Avenue used to be Ninth Avenue, but I bet you don't remember that Ninth Avenue lives again 91 blocks uptown.

Upper West Side, Columbus Avenue Between 66th and 67th Streets

I have a few more shots to show from the Nolita walk, but I thought this was a better photograph for now, since I'm going to take off the next two days, and Christmas will be all over when I come back.
So, yesterday we got off work early and on the way home, I stopped off at Pottery Barn on Broadway and 67th to get some champagne flutes for Christmas Eve dinner, and got this shot on Columbus Avenue nearby. I love, love how they do these trees for the holidays.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and love to all.
Back Tuesday night.

Upper West Side, Columbus Avenue Between 88th and 89th Streets

Columbus Avenue between 86th and 97th Streets is mighty dull. Lots of tall, ugly apartment houses with their jutting terraces. This is the only shot I'm showing from Columbus Avenue, and it's only worth showing because of the cute little woman in the building colored clothes and hair.
If you're interested in what the plaque is all about, it's about the Phelps House.
I have this thought that once I've walked all streets in Manhattan (that is, when I'm really old), I'll go back to those blocks where I didn't get a photo and hang out there until I get a good one. I think if I waited long enough, I could.
