Midtown, 58th Street Between Seventh Avenue and Broadway

I wanted to show you this photo last night, along with the other two, but it got so late and I was all snarled up in Photoshop, so I gave it up. Not that I changed it today. I gave that up, too. I just wish sunlight was hitting those towers.

Notice the small building in the middle. That's the one from the first two photos; here it's seen in a larger perspective. I've mentioned before my fondness for these old small buildings left standing alone with their sides exposed. It's not clear to me if this one is due to be demolished or it's just going to have a new neighbor. Anyway, you see it here surrounded by its taller, clunky and undistinguished neighbors. And off in the distance gleaming like the Emerald City of Oz are the ethereal towers of the Time Warner building.

OR, off in the distance, tall and menacing, are the cold, inhuman towers of the TIME WARNER BUILDING.

Read it as you will, but you must admit, it does seems to have many elements of the contemporary New York streets. And I haven't even mentioned the dumpster in the foreground.

Here's the Time Warner Building seen in its entirety for the first time in this blog.  It has appeared in previous posts in supporting roles.

I love this photo for its look of unreality.  I feel like I'm a player on the board game, Candyland.  Notice the two-dimensionality of the left tower.  You may want to check the previous posts to reassure yourself that it is indeed a real tower.

Columbus Circle, 58th Street at Eighth Avenue

Okay, a long, straight walk, though not as long as I had planned. Yesterday I had well over an hour between therapy and a doctor's appointment on the East side, so I thought I had plenty of time to walk 58th Street from Columbus Circle to the East River. One would think. But no. I guess my walking really, really slows down when I'm photographing. As Marty says in his Brooklyn accent, you're walking so slow, you're going backwards!

I only made it to Park Avenue.

Here at the beginning is a view of the wonderful Time Warner Building. We saw the back of it in October 2006.

The last photograph from September 16. We are definitely out of the streets of neglect now. This is the Time Warner building at Columbus Circle. Don't you love this building and how it seems to disappear into the sky?
