Washington Heights, 170th Street Between Broadway and St. Nicholas Avenue

Ah, Sunday morning in the park. Or square.

That's Duarte Square, a tiny little park opposite the very short block that McDonald's is on. I'm giving you the above link to Duarte Square so you can read up on Juan Pablo Duarte of Dominican Republican fame. However the statue and the square referred to in the New York City Parks link is downtown between Canal and Grand Streets. I'm here to tell you there's a Duarte Square uptown as well, and it's official, with its own New York City Park sign with maple leaf.

It's not that I'm a fan of McDonald's; I just like the way it's grabbed the entire tiny block here. Yes, that is a block. It's where Broadway veers off to the west and exchanges streets with St. Nicholas Avenue, which continues where Broadway would have if it hadn't veered off. Check your maps.

This was yesterday, Sunday morning. I looked over my map and decided to clear up some raggedy edges so I took the train to 168th, walked up Broadway a couple of blocks, then came back and walked up St. Nicholas to 182nd Street, then across to Broadway and back down to the A train at 175th. This was to fill in little patches on my map. You just cannot walk these streets efficiently, although you could probably do it more efficiently than I do.
