Inwood, Isham Park between 212th and Isham Streets

There's Broadway below and the steps leading down and a giant ginkgo tree.  I thought I was going to be talking about how big this tree is, but research shows that the ginkgo tree is, in fact, a large shade tree.  I've seen them mostly on city streets and they don't let them get that big, I guess.

Many things to know about the ginkgo.  Two of them are:  it is over 150 million years old with no close relatives, and it is a member, the only member, of the class Ginkgoopsida.  For the rest of them (things to know), go to Wikipedia.

Oh yes, and notice how the branches attach to the trunk, just kind of awkwardly stuck out straight.  That's how you can recognize the tree when the leaves are gone.

Inwood, Park Terrace East at Isham Park

Having covered 217th Street pretty thoroughly, I proceeded to "downtown" Inwood to pick up my boots.  This is where Park Terrace East begins at Isham Park.

Inwood, Isham Park

Tonight I have a six-photo story to tell, full of suspense. This wasn't the big walk I planned, but circumstances dictated a stroll close to home. I knew there was an update to be made not far away, through Isham Park. This is the entrance at the end of Park Terrace East.

A bench.

Below is an attempt to photograph an Isham Park squirrel in an interesting way.

In case you're worried that is a disembodied squirrel tail, look below and be reassured.

Inwood, Broadway Between 212th and Isham Streets

Here we are, still in Inwood. I promise you, pretty soon I'm going to get out of here and go on a long walk in some distant place, like . . . like. . .oh, the Lower East Side. Today I had planned to go at least to Harlem, but it was not to be. What with one thing and another, I ran out of time and at the very last minute, took my camera with me on my trip to the grocery store to buy sour oranges.

This was about 4:40 and it was rapidly getting dark. I took this shot looking down on Broadway from the path through Isham Park
