Here are three from Fort Washington Avenue between 183rd and 181st Streets. There is no 182nd Street West of Broadway.

And here is the front view of the church which we saw from 181st Street in April 2007. I wonder if it's the only church in Manhattan in a country setting. Some day I will know.

This is the street running east along Bennett Park, a two-block long park containing the highest point in Manhattan.

I'm really happy to be posting this photograph. Not a church, not a building, nothing you should take note of, it's a truck. (A truck!)

The shot reminds me a little of Stuart Davis's collages.

Washington Heights, Fort Washington Avenue Between 173th and 176th Streets

This is J. Hood Wright Park and that's the George Washington Bridge in the distance. From the link just given I learned that the playground equipment was designed to resemble the George Washington Bridge and that there is a sculpture there by Terry Fugate-Wilcox, installed in 1974, which is expected to diffuse by the year 3000. I, myself, have no expectations about the year 3000.

This is PS 173. It has over 1,000 students, pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. I couldn't find out when the building was built but it's safe to say it was way before PS 5 was built.

I had to look this up on the web when I got home: it's the Mother Cabrini High School Chapel which is attached to the Mother Cabrini High School. If you follow the link, you can see the side of the chapel in the ittty bitty photograph of the school. I borrowed some words from the text:

The final resting place of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini is located at 701 Fort Washington Avenue, New York. She is underneath an alter canonized as the First United States citizen Saint. The glass enclosed around her allows us to see her frail body often talked about when describing her.

We can see her actual body? Maybe I'm too easily surprised.

Washington Heights, Fort Washington Avenue between The Cloisters and West 190th Street

Last Wednesday, my day off, was catfood day, which meant Washington Heights photos. I took the A train to the 190th Street stop, which actually lets you out a couple of blocks north of 190, just outside the Cloisters' grounds where you have a bit of a walk before you reach the building.

This shot is just outside the subway stop on Fort Washington. It was a bright chilly afternoon and apparently time for school to be out.

Here's Ft. Washington as it curves into Broadway at 159th Street and comes to an end.

Some other time and place, I'd for sure do a closeup of those two red doors.

Last Thursday, September 7th, I had a doctor's appointment before work at the big Columbia-Presbyterian complex on Ft. Washington Avenue between 168th and 165th Streets. It was a bright, sunny day and I got out early, so I walked down Ft. Washington to where it curves into Broadway and ends at 159th Street. That stretch of Ft. Washington is filled mostly with big apartment buildings, not too interesting, and I walked a few blocks without taking a single shot. Here's a nice one, though.
