Happy New Year everyone. I hope you all got plenty of sleep and have been busy fulfilling your resolutions. I, myself, got up extremely late today (with good reason) and have decided to put off the resolution thing until tomorrow.
Except for one. I was looking vacantly out the window, coffee cup in hand, and noticed that although rain had been predicted and it was mighty gray out there, it wasn't actually raining, and since I do like to start the new year with a photograph taken in the new year, I was pondering the possibility of getting dressed and going out there. While I was mulling it over, the sun broke through and dramatically transformed the scene outside my window. Well that galvanized me, although I was pessimistic that it would remain sunny long enough for me to get some shots. For that reason I picked a location close by, yep, Inwood.
Here's the good news, folks. The days are getting longer! You heard it here first. That sun was still shining at 4:15. So although I'm sure there's plenty of miserable weather ahead of us and spring will take forever to get here, we can all take comfort in the lengthening days. Oh, thank goodness.

Inwood, Nagle Avenue between Academy and Dyckman Streets

I see this little guy at the window about 12' from the ground and take a few shots and a woman comes over to me and asks me if I want a kitten or two. That's the grandfather she says. No, no, I already have two, I say. So we chat a bit and then she runs upstairs to show me the rest of the family.

This is the mother of the kittens.
Sorry, no shots of the kittens; they were asleep.

Inwood, Nagle Avenue Between 204th and Academy Streets

I take a lot more photographs than I show. You know that. This is the ONLY shot I took on Nagle between 204 and Academy. Think how it would be living next to the train tracks, window level.
Was that scene in one of Woody's movies?

Here's one of those close-up, carefully composed, buffed and polished, almost abstract, two dimensional photographs that I'm attracted to.

And here is its home. Real life. I wanted you to see the word status at the top of the building. That word was also in the first photo of this shoot, but atop a different building. You must enlarge it to see it.

Now, on the other side of the platform, some life! Some color! I look forward to being street level with this cute block. Notice the graffiti on the pipe on the roof. If you click on the photos now, they over-enlarge and run off the page, but at least you can see the tiniest details, including that pipe.
